This cast iron dog grate is made from solid, sturdy cast iron. Cast iron is very good for fireplaces as it conducts the heat quickly and retains heat for a long while afterwards. 

We always recommend having a couple of smaller fires first before a normal larger sized fire to allow the cast iron metal to season. If looked after properly this dog grate will last for many years to come.  

The fire grate is available in two different sizes with optional ash pan/cover and an optional back plate on the smaller size. 

Please note the grate comes without an ash pan/cover or back plate as standard these are optional extras.
